Reducing Risk for Riders
There’s nothing like the freedom you feel when riding. However, if you’re on the road, you’re at risk. To ensure you have the coverage and financial protection you need, consider the following motorcycle insurance coverage options.
Liability Insurance Coverage
Liability insurance covers bodily injury and property damage that you may cause to other people involved in an accident.
• Bodily injury liability – typically covers the other driver or your passenger’s expenses such as medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
• Property damage liability – typically covers the expense of repairing damage to others’ property (vehicles, homes, fences, etc.).
Accident Benefits
Provides insurance benefits that you and other insured persons are entitled to receive if injured or killed in a motorcycle accident. These insurance benefits include: income replacement for those who have lost income; payments to non-earners who suffer complete inability to carry on a normal life; payment of care expenses to persons who cannot continue to act as a primary caregiver for a member of their household; payment of medical, rehabilitation and attendant care expenses; payment of certain other expenses; payment of funeral expenses and payments to survivors of a person who is killed. You may also purchase optional insurance benefits to increase the basic level of accident benefits
Collision Insurance Coverage
Collision insurance covers damage, minus your deductible, to your motorcycle if you are involved in an accident. Keep in mind, collision insurance usually covers the book value of the motorcycle before the loss occurred.
Loss or Damage
Provides a selection of insurance coverages for your own motorcycle. Insurance claim payments cover direct and accidental loss of – or damage to – a described motorcycle and its equipment. There is usually a deductible amount indicated for coverage and its amount is paid by you, the motorcycle owner, toward the cost of repairs. Higher deductibles may reduce your insurance premium.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance coverage covers damages to you and your property caused by another driver who either is uninsured or underinsured to cover your damages. This coverage typically pays for medical treatment, lost wages and other damages.
Optional Equipment Coverage
If you decide to customize your motorcycle, you should look into obtaining additional or optional equipment coverage. Most comprehensive and collision insurance coverages will only cover the factory standard parts on your motorcycle.
Direct Compensation – Property Damage
Provides insurance coverage under certain conditions, for damage to your motorcycle and to property it is carrying, when another motorist is responsible. It is called Direct Compensation because you, the motorcycle rider/owner, will collect from your own motorcycle insurance company even though you are not at fault for the accident.
